As award season gets underway, the Golden Globes is the first chance for Hollywood's elite to set the red carpet trend. Last night, the stars shied away from colour, stepping out instead in pale, cool and snow-inspired hues for a series of white hot looks.
BRIDAL SHOWER
With the Royal Wedding, Twilight nuptials and Kim Kardashian's short-lived Hollywood extravaganza, it comes as no surprise bridal gowns are the hottest red carpet trend this year.
Bride-to-be Jessica Biel, who recently announced her engagement to Justin Timberlake, opted for a white lace gown by Elie Saab and Tiffany & Co. jewellery. The romantic vintage-style dress featured a high-neck and was split to the thigh - a hint at what is to come, perhaps?
Kate Beckinsale opted a strapless, fishtail gown by Italian designer Roberto Cavalli. And with an up-do and sparkling jewels, Kate looked the most bridal of them all.
Supermodel Elle Macpherson wore a show-stopping Zac Posen corseted gown, featuring layers and layers of tulle underskirt. Actress Jessica Chastain chose a more wearabale but equally stunning white Givenchy dress.

PALE AND INTERESTING
Nude hit the catwalk in 2010 and seems to be the trend that keeps on giving.
The new black, celebrities just can't get enough of white shades and blush tones.
Nicole Kidman added some metal to her look with a Versace halter-neck dress. The 47-year-old also revealed some of her fitness secrets as she made her way up the red carpet and said she likes to keep active to maintain her shape. 'I think it's really important to put some time aside to do some physical exercise to feel good. I do sport, I surf, I waterski, I ride horses, I do what I can, I mix it up.'
E! presenter Giuliana rancic looked elegant in a white dress with gold detailing. Heidi Klum kept it simple in Calvin Klein but added a pop of colour with a statement necklace.

BACK TO BLACK
The failsafe red carpet colour, black is always flattering. But the dark shade can be ageing and younger stars often shy away from wearing black.
Not Rooney Mara, who wore a cutaway Nina Ricci gown, or Mila Kunis, who was wearing Christian Dior.
The Black Swan actress signed up to front the new handbag campaign, so it's no surprise she chose to wear the French label. Selma Hayek, in Gucci, and Julianne Moore, in Chanel, both opted for strapless.
Monochrome is always a good alternative to head-to-toe black, as demonstrated by Kate Winslet, Claire Danes and Colin Firth's wife, Livia Giuggioli, who wore a sustainable Armani dress made of frabic created using recycled water bottles.

Evan Rachel Wood, who perhaps made the biggest statement of the evening, showed off her figure in a halter-neck Gucci feather dress.
New Girl star Zooey Deschanel wore bespoke Prada.
Features, sequins or ruffles, the message was clear when it came to texture - there is no such thing as too much.

NOT-SO-MELLOW YELLOW
It may be fashion forward, but canary yellow isn't an easy red carpet look to pull off.
That didn't stop some from trying.
Superbad actress Lauren Miller, TV personality Maria Menounos, Mission Impossible 4 actress Paula Patton and Emily Blunt all made a bold statement in the sunny shade.
